We have some news to share: maybe it’ll come as a surprise, maybe it won’t, but we have decided to call time on this silly little beautiful project we call Track 7.

When delivering the news of something ending, people often use the phrase ‘it is with a heavy heart’. But, as of now, if our hearts feel heavy, it’s because they’re full. We can only equate the feeling with an amicable breakup where you’ve decided to end it because it’s the right thing to do, and at a point where you can preserve everything that made it worthwhile and say goodbye on your own terms.

But, while ending it is the right thing to do at the right time doesn’t make it easy. Both of us found a home and a community here. We realised our dreams here. We worked with artists we never thought would take notice and championed those whose work deserved to be covered and covered well. We published brave and bold writing that stood up for what is right in an industry – and a world – full of wrongs. We raised our voice when others remained quiet, even when it would’ve been easier to do the same.

Most importantly, we achieved what we set out to do: develop and realise the potential of new writers. This project has produced some of the best music writers in the game, and we don’t seek to take an ounce of credit for that; instead, we take heart in knowing that our community is represented. People with talent and ideas and integrity who are out there changing the face of music journalism, in whatever form the industry takes. If that is our legacy, if we pushed the envelope even a small way towards something better, then we did everything we needed to do.

The site is staying up, so there’s a record of this five-year project and all of the work it holds. The only thing that remains to be said is thank you.

To all of our writers and contributors over the years, who have worked with us in the most collaborative, open-hearted way. They are the realest people going, and we remain incredibly proud of everything they’ve done and continue to do.

To all of the artists, labels and PRs who worked with us even when we were bad at replying to emails and almost never ran anything during the actual press cycle – thanks, sorry!

To everyone who read our work and supported us through their words, their cash or their generosity with the RT button – it means everything.
